Ohio Nu held its first ever virtual Spring Balanced Man Scholarship. The award, which is held during the Fall with months of planning, was executed to perfection in the sole month of January. It was an unprecedented situation that resulted in much success. The men behind the madness were Zach Harris and Vice President of Recruitment Bryan Ash.
The brainstorming to have the scholarship in the Spring began during the end of the Fall semester. Zach and Bryan knew it could be done if put into motion correctly. As soon as winter break kicked off, they got to work on organizing the interviewing committee, spreading the word, and the events for the applicants. The moment word got out, the interview committee started their process. With over 70+ applications submitted, the interview process had to be completed in a two week time period to have finalists ready by the 25th. Once the 15 finalists out of the 70+ applicants were selected, it was time for the events.
Two events were in line for the finalists. The first event was a presentation by SigEp alumnus Michael Repasky, and the second event was the 4 Characteristics of a Leader by SigEp alumnus Brad Nahrstadt, respectively. The events were for the finalists to learn more about excelling at college and managing to be great leaders. Finally came time for the Balanced Man Scholarship banquet for the finalists. Bryan opened up the banquet with the agenda for the event. He then awarded the Brotherhood Awards of Excellence to seniors Louis Iaquinto and Hunter Kiper. To add on, Ohio Nu alum Paul All was present to give a presentation on the importance of being open in college life.
The banquet part came into play following Paul’s presentation. The finalists were paired into breakout rooms with chapter members and alumni while they discussed and ate their meals. After a half hour, everyone re-connected to the main room where the winners of the scholarship were announced. Congratulations to Thomas Gill, Andrew Badza, Joseph Reinerth, Travis Kroggel, and Juandedios Abboud for winning the Balanced Man Scholarship awards.
A huge thanks goes to Bryan and Zach for making this whole event possible. Without their leadership, this plan would have never left the ground. Here’s to hoping that they create more impressive ideas for the chapter’s future!
