It is not everyday that a chapter gets the honor of welcoming a member of SigEp’s headquarters. However, Ohio Nu did just that this past Thursday as SigEp Chief Communication Officer Heather Kirk paid a virtual visit. While there, Heather presented the importance that communication has to bring a chapter to success, both internally and externally.
For this event, the chapter came out in full numbers to hear Heather. Along with the chapter brothers presence came the alumni, who also wanted to see what they can improve on to help the chapter out. First Heather went over what good internal communication, the communication that occurs amongst brothers, is and what it looks like. One by one, the brothers answered until they pieced together what perfect internal communication is and how to accomplish it.
The next part of the presentation was going over how to go about communicating externally, or outwards towards the university. As the brothers were asked what they thought that meant, Heather brought up the point that it takes every brother to do this successfully. Even though there is a communication committee, the reach is only fully accomplished if every brother spreads the positivity of the chapter. Whether that is through their social media, word of mouth, or even by wearing letters around campus. In other words, it takes a village to reach the highest of highs.
All in all, Heather’s words helped to open the eyes of the brother in what they need to work on. It is a helpful wake up call to let the brothers know there is always room for improvement and that the job can only be completed with everyone’s strength on display. A huge thank you goes out to Heather for meeting with the chapter, and the wisdom she left behind on how important communication can be. The next time she comes by, the chapter will be further ahead due to her advice at this event.
