There is no better way to start off the new year than with a visit from Ohio Nu’s good friend Archie Messersmith-Bunting. He and the chapter go way back seeing as he was present at the charter ceremony for the chapter in 2017. Archie is a SigEp himself, Samford ’99, and a former SigEp staff member who now serves as a mental health educator, advocator and speaker for his company Archie Cares. Seeing as the Spring semester is about to begin, this is the perfect time to discuss mental health, not only for one’s self but for others as well. For Archie’s presentation, current brothers and alumni of the chapter showed up to hear what he had to say. Naturally, Archie blew everyone away with how much helpful information he provided. As people, it is easy for one to say that someone is depressed, but Archie spread awareness on what is actual depression and how to spot it compared to sadness. It may seem like a small thing, but it goes a long way in bringing up how serious depression is. From tips on self care to how to communicate with others, he let everyone know that there is always some form of help to provide.
If anything, Archie made sure everyone present, even the alumni older than him, left feeling better on dealing with mental health troubles in the future, and the chapter is going to do a better job of spreading help, especially in these times. A huge thank you is in due favor to Archie for providing a wonderful discussion on mental health awareness and prevention, and for boosting the chapter morale heading into the semester and the year. May this be the first of future collaborations with Archie since the doors of Ohio Nu are open anytime for him.
