This week’s brother goes way back to last Spring. Particularly, the moment he accepted the Balanced Man Scholarship Chair; a commitment for which the Chapter heavily looks upon. This said position is in charge of coordinating all of the BMS from alerting incoming freshmen of the scholarship itself, to interviewing the applicants, to organizing the banquet for the finalists. The brother in question is Vince Jordan.
Vince revitalized the whole process of the Balanced Man Scholarship. The process began with an extensive reaching out to high schools and Cleveland State organizations back in June to help promote the scholarship to a higher number of freshmen. The results came back very positive as Ohio Nu received 100+ applications, a new record. Next, Vince, along with the Vice President of Recruitment Zach Harris, created a committee to interview every finalist. For the individuals selected from the long list of applicants, a week of Zoom events was planned with special presentations by coveted alumni Brian Nahrstadt and Ohio Nu graduate Martin Barnard. Along with the presentations came a group discussion with Ohio Nu brothers on leadership and the significance of it.
Lastly, came the banquet for the finalists. Vince did not hold back as he brought out the big guns; alumni, volunteers, former brothers, current brothers to come enjoy this moment with the applicants. A special presentation by Vince himself recapped the whole BMS and the importance it means to have so many talented young men apply. Former Regional Director Jimmy Miller followed with his presentation on the value of taking the next steps as oncoming college students. The applicants were broken up into breakout rooms with the other guests to have a discussion as they ate and introduced themselves. The finale came a Vince brought everyone back and announced the top ten winners of the scholarship; a very hard choice to make as every single finalist deserved to win, but alas only ten could make it.
This big task that began last semester and rolled through the Summer and finished this semester could not have been possible without the virtue and diligence of Vince, so join in celebrating his hard-work and the much deserved Brother of the Week.
